The Society was set up in January 1964 and, since then has had the general objective of stimulating interst in and preserving the beauty, history and character of Galloway. This encompasses both natural and man-made features. The society also makes periodic grants to activities falling within these objectives (see News). Membership is open to all and members are offered an annual programme of three meetings, and two outings to places of interest; the meetings normally comprise a lecture and the opportunity for members to raise points of general interest or concern.
